Join us and get your hands (and feet) dirty.

THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE, FOLLOWING THE JOURNEY OF WINEMAKING FROM GRAPE TO GLASS.

Hosted over the course of four days in 2020, guests will participate in everything from stomping on grapes, to plunging ferments, blending, bottling and of course drinking the wine they've helped make.

The process gets you up close and personal with the winemaking process following the grapes from bunches of fruit to a finished wine.

Not only will you get to be involved in physically making the wine, you'll also receive six bottles of the wine you helped make, meet new people and hang out with (what we think is) a pretty good crew of people at City Winery.

Come on the journey with us.

THE CRUSH

WHEN:  A Saturday or Sunday in March/April

HOW LONG: 4-5hrs

When the grapes arrive you'll have to help us bucket them by hand from the picking bins into the destemmer where the stems are removed.  Time to get your hands dirty!  We’ll need to give our ferments their first mix and hand-plunge and check their vital statistics.

A working lunch is included, entertainment on the day and drinks available at the bar.

THE PRESS

WHEN:  A couple of weeks after the stomp.

HOW LONG: 4-5hrs

At this stage the grapes have finished fermentation and we have wine! Help the City Winery team bucket the fermented grapes into a couple of old manual basket presses where we separate the remainder of the wine from its skins.  After this, the wine is pumped into barrels where it's aged until it's ready to blend and bottle.

Once again a working lunch is included, entertainment on the day and drinks available at the bar.

BLENDING

WHEN:  An afternoon or evening later in the year.

HOW LONG: 2-3hrs

Probably one afternoon after work, vintage members will be invited to help us blend up the wine so the winemakers can get it ready for bottling.

Members will work in small groups to taste the various components of the wine, blend them together to help us crowd-source the final product.

Snacks and drinks available at the bar on this occassion.

BOTTLING & LABELLING

WHEN:  An afternoon later in the year.

HOW LONG: 4-5hrs

We have wine!! The most exciting day.  Join the production line filling bottles, labelling, and packing them away into crates and boxes.

Fill up your own box whilst you're at it to take with you a a memento of your experience.

A working lunch is included, entertainment on the day and drinks available at the bar.

Frequently asked questions

How involved do I have to get?

Very (if you want to) if standing next to the bar helping to hold it up is more your style well that's fine too! We encourage everyone to get hands on pressing, plunging, stomping and tasting.

What will I actually learn?

The basics of winemaking.  The winemakers are on site working with the group explaining the process of making wine, what people should be looking for in the fruit and so on.

Between workshops can I come in and try our wines?

Absolutely... and it's encouraged! Pop in, show your mates, get the winemakers or one of the team to give you a splash from the barrel.  This is a wine we want you to be proud of!

Can I buy a membership for someone else?

Definitely... Just select gift voucher during the checkout process.  Your friend will be most impressed!

What days will you be hosting the workshops?

Regrettably we are in the hands of the gods for this! When the fruit is ready to pick is 100% based on the weather, climate, and growing conditions.  We will aim to give as much notice and options to members so they can join a workshop that works for them.  We will have a better idea in January/February 2020.

Is there a briefing session?

Yes, we will be hosting an information session to explain the process with all vintage members early 2020, and talk about the wine, and wine style we're going to make.

I don't have $550 right now.

All good, we feel you.  You can pay off your vintage membership across three easy payments over 30 days.  Select pay deposit during checkout.
